Tomoko Takanashi (b. Tokyo), who completed her studies at the Musashino Academia Musicae in Tokyo with Akiko Kitagawa, came in 1996 to Denmark to study the piano music of Carl Nielsen with Rosalind Bevan at the Carl Nielsen Academy of Music Odense. Additionally she studied accompaniment with Rodolfo Llambias and chamber music with Jens Schou and has participated in masterclasses held by pianists such as Mirta Herrera, David Burge, Ruvim Ostrovskij, and Paul Badura-Skoda. She graduated from the Diploma Class in 1997 and played her debut concert from the Soloist Class in 1999 with the Odense Symphony Orchestra.

Since her final exam in Japan in 1991 Tomoko Takanashi has given many concerts in Japan and Denmark, as well as toured in various countries such as Romania, Poland, Italy, Germany, and Hungary with recitals and as soloist with various orchestras. Besides a broad repertoire ranging from the Baroque to the twenty-first century, Tomoko Takanashi also includes works of Danish composers in her recitals abroad, this is always received with a great interest from the audience. In addition she has made various artistic projects in collaboration with other artforms such as painting, ceramics, and dance.

Her CD, "The Light of Carl Nielsen" (Classico Records, CLASSCD 339), and "The World of H. C. Andersen" (Classico Records, CLASSCD 619/2) have been highly acclaimed by the critics. Tomoko Takanashi's musical activities in Denmark and in Danish music and culture in general have been introduced to a wide circle of readers in her homeland through articles in several Japanese magazines - which has also printed a number of her own essays. Her revision and supervision score "H. C. Andersen's Fairy Tales - Ludvig Schytte", and "Humoresque-Bagatelles / Five Piano Pieces - Carl Nielsen" have been published by Edition KAWAI.
